Celebrating RL in SL

In honor of the RL Netherlands which has so few criminals they will be CLOSING prisons, I visited SL's Amsterdam today.
Click on pictures for a closer look.

The architecture alone made the visit worth while! But Amsterdam, Amsterdam 2 and Amsterdam Red Light District has more than one pleasure to offer.

There's plenty of shopping, with items from mad to the mundane. Plenty of great deals can be found by the bargain hungry. Like Nalani Wear, with a sign in the window boasting "everything only $1L". Don't have a Linden to spare? It doesn't get any cheaper than Freebeehive!

While most of the buildings seem occupied, there area a few shop areas for rent.

Wander the side alleys and drop by the Redlight District at night if you'd like to see the seedier side of Amsterdam.

Even if you're not interested in the disreputable aspects of the Redlight District, there are still plenty of interesting sights to see.

One of my favorites

I haven't been in Second Life enough in the last few days to do or write anything of note and I haven't found much Second Life news that rings my bell lately.

So, I am going to hook you up with one of my favorite SL blogger/resources. If you haven't visited The Mermaid Diaries, now's the time to go. Not only is the little mermaid Natalia Zelmonov, a prolific blogger, a glance at the right column of her site provides a great list of resources.

I've been visiting Natalia's site since I joined Second Life and learned much from her easy to follow tutorials. She has great links to other SL sites and information too.

If you don't really want to learn anything, but really want to get in some shopping, click here for SLURL to her store (Sirena's) in world. I love her hair styles with fun extras included.

Health Panel Expo in SL & RL Tomorrow

The Health Panel Expo takes place tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. SLT. Second Life residents can attend the event for free at Health Commons AMO Island.

The Health Panel Expo panelists will include speakers from Aids.gov and Community Voicemail discussing mobile health initiatives; Virtual Ability, Inc., a nonprofit that brings people with disabilities and chronic health conditions into virtual worlds; and Susan Tenby, Online Community Director for TSG and the Nonprofit Commons in Second Life. Other panelists include experts fromthe disability, recovery services, nutrition, cancer, and AIDS communities.

Additional information (including Twitter and video archive links) about the Expo is available at the NPC: Non Profit Commons - NPSL: Non Profits in Second Life website.

Grandfathering for Homsteads

If you haven't already heard, the Lindens announced this afternoon, Homestead pricing will be grandfathered at $95.00 a month for a year, if purchased before July 2009. The Lindens will also reinstate abandoned (since January 2009) Homesteads without a setup fee.

Doesn't make much of a difference to me, but I'm sure the Lindens made some SLers very happy today!

Digital Nation

I was catching up on the Linden Blogs when I saw an entry about PBS's Frontline asking Catherine Linden to invite Second Life residents to submit a 2 to 3 minute video, audio or photo gallery to Frontline's Digital Nation project.

A quick visit to the site proved Second Life residents and other technically networked participants have some interesting narratives and innovative ways to tell them. If you like machinima or other digital forms of creative story telling, it's worth a visit. Or maybe you have a tale to tell?

New Vendors and Gift Vouchers

I've updated my Hippo Vendors and gift cards. Vouchers can now be used to "part pay" for a product, leaving the balance to be paid in L$. If you purchased or received a gift voucher before 5/23/2009 and would like to exchange it for the updated version, please contact me and we can make arrangements for you to get the new voucher. If you see something at Nitely's Boutique you really like, you might want to buy it now, in case it's moved or retired. Or you can hold out until the other stores and inventory are added.

First Post

Welcome to Nitely News and my very first post!

I'm getting closer to opening up my stores at Qintessa in Second Life. I'll be adding several stores. Nitely's Boutique is currently open, but will be changing when as the other stores open. I'll be reducing inventory by either retiring it or moving it to other locations.

I've added a waterfall and river, along with a river walk and some water features along the shoreline. More later!

Visit the waterfall (with duckies) and let us know what you think!
